ワイオミング州グランド・ティトン 国立公園（Grand Teton National Park)
大恐慌からの復興期、ルーズベルト大統領政権の下、失業救済ニューディール政策が推し進められていた1941年のことです。
米内務省（The Department of the Interior) ではその一環として、省の建物を一新し、内壁にはアメリカ人アーティストによる時代を反映した画像を施す事業を導入していました。
当時の内務省ハロルド・イケス長官(Harold Ickes) は、カルフォルニア 州ヨセミテ国立公園を主に活動拠点としていた写真家アンセル・アダムス氏（Ansel Adams）に壁画用写真撮影の依頼し、契約を結びます。

10月には、アリゾナ州（ザイオン国立公園、グランドキャニオン国立公園、ワルピ村・ホピ族の住居跡、キャニオン・デ・チェリー国立公園）、コロラド州（メサ・ヴェルデ国立公園）で撮影を行い、5日分の作業として計上しています。
11月には、ニューメキシコ州（カールズバッド洞窟群国立公園）、アリゾナ州（サガロ国立公園）などでの撮影と現像作業などで、３日と半日分の活動と報告しています。
